I used to use the command line utility osql.exe. I never use this anymore because using SQL Deploy means that I have a much more user friendly GUI without seeing DOS boxes during installation.

Have your application automatically deploy schema changes to your backend SQL Server
with SSW SQL Deploy
How many times have you deployed an initial version of your SQL Server or MSDE Database
application to your clients or departments, then wondered how you are going to make
updates to the Database schema in the future without hassle?
SQL Deploy solves this problem by automatically performing Database updates as a
part of your application deployment. Bundle SSW SQL Deploy when you distribute a
new version of your application to clients and all your database changes will happen
automatically.
Simply save database changes from Enterprise Manager, SQL Query Analyzer or Visual
Studio .NET as scripts and this utility enables automatic version upgrades. SSW
SQL Deploy uses SQL Server or MSDE and is designed for Winforms, Webforms, VB, ASP
and Access applications (and more), SSW SQL Deploy means you never have to worry
about your client's data when deploying applications again!
When you distribute a new version of your application to your clients using SQL
Deploy, it automatically applies any pending SQL scripts and Database updates.
It is common practice to save Database schema changes as SQL script files to apply
at a later stage. SQL Deploy works with this practice by applying all of the scripts
in a directory and adding versioning information to the Database after it applies
the SQL scripts.
SQL Deploy can be used directly via its user interface or called from your application.
You can use trickle down deployment for front end, now you can use SQL Deploy for
the backend.
SQL Deploy means you never have to worry about your Clients' data when deploying
applications again!
Key Features and Benefits
SSW SQL Deploy is so easy to use that it should be a part of every application developer's

Mode 2 - Reconcile Scripts
Related Software
While SSW SQL Deploy manages a SQL Server Database, use SSW
Data PRO! to manage an Access Database.
The reconcile scripts mode allows you to check that the saved SQL scripts contain
all of the changes to your Database.
In this mode SQL Deploy creates a temporary Database then compares the temporary
Database structure to your existing Database. Any differences in the SQL scripts
are then displayed.
Mode 3 - Single SQL script
Runs a single SQL script against the Database.

How did this product eventuate?
We developed a custom rich client product for Tennis Australia which was installed
in many locations around Australia. Every time a new version was deployed (which
was too often :-) we had to manually dial in to run some SQL scripts ?SQL Deploy
was developed and completely removed this deployment problem.
SSW SQL Deploy now boasts an Options form that can easily be integrated into your
application. This options form will let you select a database for the application
(either create or select an existing one). Once selected, the database can be upgraded
depending on the scripts that you have placed in the scripts folder. The statistics
of the database are shown for your convenience, and the reconcile function is implemented
to ensure your database structure is up to date with the scripts. Instructions on
